One Hospitalized, 13 Displaced After Multi-Alarm Fire In Newark: FD

One firefighter was injured and 13 people were displaced after a two-alarm fire in Newark on the morning of Tuesday, Oct. 29, authorities said.

At 9:24 a.m., firefighters responded to 356 . 6th Street, a three-story residential building and immediately called a second alarm, requesting additional units to help control the blaze,  Newark Public Safety Director Fritz Fragé said.

One firefighter suffered a laceration to his left foot and was been transported to University Hospital for treatment, Fragé said. A second firefighter was treated at the scene by EMS for heat exhaustion and remained on-duty, Fragé said. 

The fire was declared under control at 10:02 a.m.

Six families, including eight adults and five children, have been relocated, Fragé said. The cause and origin of the fire is under investigation by the Department of Public Safety’s Arson Unit, Fragé said.
